Michelin Research, Development and Industrialisation Center
In June 2013, Eiffage won a contract to build the new Michelin research, development and industrialisation (RDI) Center in Ladoux, just north of Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), home to three quarters of Michelin’s global research activities.
320 metres long, 130 metres wide, 67,000 m² of useful surface area, 400 kilometres of electric cables and 80 modular platforms measuring 300 m²: the RDI Campus is the largest building complex ever constructed in the Auvergne region, overlooking the iconic Michelin test track.
Eiffage Construction, Eiffage Métal (with it subsidiary Laubeuf), Goyer and Eiffage Energy work together to refurbish the existing separate dispersed buildings and build a new flagship structure offering more than 90,000 m2 of floor space.
Following the Michelin selection of Eiffage integrated offer and work started in 2013, Eiffage Construction, Eiffage Energie, Eiffage Metal and Goyer have delivered on time the new main buildings on September 2015.
This project is part of the Michelin’s modernization process of its research and development center. The new site will facilitate the movement of people and ideas by fostering an interconnection of skills at the tyre manufacturing company.

The new campus will meet current environmental requirements. A shade sheet of 26 000 m² overlooks the eight buildings of the first phase of implementation. It helps regulate thermal variations. Curtain walls close the spaces created between the buildings. The southern facades of the office floors are breathable, and are equipped with sun protections.
The steady progress of the works and the compliance with schedules are the result of sound preparation upstream. Right from the consultation phase launched by Michelin, Eiffage decided to offer an integrated solution combining the expertise of its Construction, Energy and Metal teams with a single goal in mind : winning together by offering a competitive quality solution for the client. This integrated approach during the bidding phase has also been applied to the execution phase, with the participation of all the Group’s divisions.
